The FragDNA review

Invictus Aqua's sweeter, louder twin

FragDNA editors · the consensus of 3 reviewers and wearer threads · 21 October 2026

85%close
Opening
Fruitier and busier than Invictus — apple and a bubblegum-fresh sweetness up front.
Dry-down
This is where they meet: the clean, aquatic, ambery base is very close to Invictus Aqua.
Longevity
Very good — reports of a full day, still on clothes the next morning.
Projection
Strong for the first hour or two, then moderate.
Best for
Summer, the gym bag, the office — a crowd-pleasing fresh scent that lasts.

Hawas became famous for one reason: when Paco Rabanne discontinued the original Invictus Aqua, people went looking for something that smelled like it, and this is what they found.

The fans who own both are surprisingly consistent. The opening is sweeter and fruitier — some catch apple, some catch an unmistakable bubblegum note — where Invictus is cleaner and sportier. But in the dry-down the two come very close, and plenty of wearers say a casual nose could not separate them.

Performance is the clincher. It projects hard at first (three or four sprays is the advice, not more) and lingers long after, which is more than many fresh designer fragrances can claim.

The verdictAbout 85% of Invictus Aqua, with a sweeter start and better staying power. One of the safest fresh blind buys there is.

What it's built to smell like

Paco Rabanne Invictus is sea notes, grapefruit and mandarin orange at first, bay leaf and jasmine at its heart and ambergris, guaiac wood and oakmoss at the end. Rasasi set out to put that same arc in a cheaper bottle.

For the one who lives in gyms and summer afternoons, chasing that salty grapefruit-and-marine freshness over a clean woody base for daytime confidence.
