It arrives on rose, cyclamen, bergamot, lilac, gardenia and jasmine — bright, immediate, gone before you have decided about it. Underneath, carnation, cloves, geranium, peach, iris and violet leaf settle in and take over. The base is oakmoss, musk, sandalwood, tolu balsam, ambergris, patchouli, vanilla and cedar. That is the bit on your scarf the next morning.
