Yves Saint Laurent Y begins with bergamot and ginger, and does not apologise for either.
How it moves
It arrives on bergamot, ginger and aldehydes — bright, immediate, gone before you have decided about it. Then the heart turns up — sage, violet leaf and geranium — and the whole thing slows down. By evening it is cedar, olibanum, Tonka Bean and amberwood, and it is better for it.
Who made it
Dominique Ropion composed it in 2017, for Yves Saint Laurent in France. The 2017 launch that opened YSL's Y pillar, named for the house's white-shirt-and-black-blazer uniform. It was reformulated and reissued as a separate Y Eau de Toilette in 2022.
