Tom Ford dupes: the most copied house in perfume, by the numbers

No perfume brand gets copied like Tom Ford. In our index it is number one: 886 twins of its fragrances, against 600 for Creed in second place. Oud Wood, Lost Cherry, Tobacco Vanille: the names on the shelf are the names the dupe houses want.

Two shelves, one name

Tom Ford's perfume began with Black Orchid in November 2006, the first scent from Tom Ford Beauty, and a year later came Private Blend: a pricier, more experimental line that Ford called his own scent laboratory, according to Wikipedia. Now Smell This reported the launch in February 2007: twelve unisex scents, at $165 for 50ml.

That first dozen is still being copied. We track 9 of the twelve, and 7 of them have twins: 197 in all, 22% of every Tom Ford twin we count. The rest go to the bottles that came after. Oud Wood, one of the twelve, is listed today at $300 for the same 50ml.
