Cuir de Russie
Ernest Beaux put orange blossom at the front of Chanel Cuir de Russie and built everything else to hold it there.

How it moves
It arrives on orange blossom, bergamot, mandarin orange and clary sage — bright, immediate, gone before you have decided about it. The middle belongs to iris, jasmine, ylang-ylang, rose and cedar. By evening it is leather, birch tar, amber, vetiver and styrax, and it is better for it.
Who made it
Ernest Beaux composed it in 1924, for Chanel in France. Ernest Beaux's 1924 leather, inspired by the birch-tar boots of Russian cavalry officers, reissued in Les Exclusifs.
