How it moves

The first breath is aldehydes, bergamot, mandarin orange and strawberry, and it is loud about it. Then the heart turns up — iris, violet, jasmine, rose and ylang-ylang — and the whole thing slows down. It dries down to sandalwood, vetiver, amber, benzoin and Tonka Bean, close to the skin and hard to forget.

Who made it

Francis Fabron composed it in 1957, for Givenchy in France. Hubert de Givenchy created it for Audrey Hepburn and reportedly forbade her from sharing it, giving the scent its name; it was among the first celebrity-linked perfumes.
