1876 Mata Hari
Picture rose with the thorns left on. That is the first ten seconds of Histoires de Parfums 1876 Mata Hari.

How it moves
Cinnamon, coriander and bergamot hit first, the way an opening line should. Underneath, rose, incense, jasmine and clove settle in and take over. Last to go: patchouli, amber, vanilla and musk.
Who made it
Gérald Ghislain composed it in 2001, for Histoires de Parfums in France. For the dancer and accused spy, a spiced oriental rose with cinnamon, incense and patchouli. Among the darkest of the house's founding portraits.
