Bois Farine
Picture the inside of a handbag. That is the first ten seconds of L'Artisan Parfumeur Bois Farine.

How it moves
Flour, iris and fennel hit first, the way an opening line should. By the half hour it has become peanut, orris and cedar. It dries down to sandalwood, benzoin and musk, close to the skin and hard to forget.
Who made it
Jean-Claude Ellena composed it in 2003, for L'Artisan Parfumeur in France. Jean-Claude Ellena built this around a Réunion Island tree whose flowers smell of flour, producing an uncanny raw-dough accord. One of perfumery's strangest concepts executed well.
