Douce Amère
Christopher Sheldrake composed Serge Lutens Douce Amère around cedar, and it shows the longer you wear it.

How it moves
Up top: absinthe, wormwood and marigold. Enjoy them; they will not stay. Then the heart turns up — lily, jasmine and tiare — and the whole thing slows down. What is left hours later is vanilla, cinnamon, musk and cedar, and that is the part people follow you for.
Who made it
Christopher Sheldrake composed it in 2000, for Serge Lutens in France. Bittersweet by name and by build, contrasting wormwood and absinthe against lily and vanilla. A quietly beloved oddity of the line.
