Un Bois Vanille
Vanilla turned slow and dark, then licorice. Serge Lutens Un Bois Vanille has a sense of occasion.

How it moves
You meet coconut and licorice at the door. The middle belongs to vanilla, beeswax and guaiac wood. By evening it is Tonka Bean, sandalwood and benzoin, and it is better for it.
Who made it
Christopher Sheldrake composed it in 2003, for Serge Lutens in France. Lutens' answer to vanilla, built on Madagascan bean, burnt sugar and licorice rather than sweetness alone. It remains one of the house's best-selling export-line bottles.
